Like to recount the one-day Staff enrichment program was conducted at St. Charles College of Arts and Science, Eraiyur, on 27/07/2024 with Dr. J. John Love Joy as the esteemed resource person. Dr. J.John Love Joy, an Associate Professor of English at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy, boasts an impressive academic and professional background. He holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Loyola College, Chennai, a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English (PGDTE) and an M.Phil. from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, and a Ph.D. in English Language Teaching from Madras University, Chennai. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Love Joy has served as a lecturer at Loyola College, Chennai, a Language Trainer at Hyundai Motors, Chennai, and Additional Dean of IQAC. He has co-authored six books on English Language Teaching, co-edited two books on Soft Skills, and published several research articles. Moreover, he has conducted nearly 300 one-day workshops for teachers and administrators across India.
The program commenced with a prayer led by Professor Anbarasan, Department of English followed by a warm welcome address and the introduction of the resource person by Professor Mohamed Khan Head Department of BBA.
Principal Dr. William Suresh Kumar Adorned Dr. John Love Joy with a shawl, and our Secretary Rev. Sister Amali Anbarasi presented him with a memento. The first session began with an engaging “Simon Says” game, setting a lively and interactive tone for the day.
Dr. John Love Joy then provided insightful lectures on the higher education system in India, emphasizing the need for proficiency in English among students. He shared practical techniques for improving English pronunciation and engaged participants in a case study focused on problem-finding and decision-making. An innovative line-forming game had staff members using personal items to form lines and select valuable items, which each group then defended, teaching degrees of comparison in a fun and interactive way first session end with a lunch provided by our management.
The second session starts with a discussions included the current state and trends of online classes and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) that provide free educational opportunities. Participants were divided into four groups and asked to write steps for making tea, a creative exercise designed to teach imperative sentences. Dr. John Love Joy also stressed the importance of skills over academic degrees for employability.
The program concluded with an inspiring speech by Secretary Rev. Sister Amali Anbarasi, followed by a vote of thanks by Rev. Sister Mini. The event ended on a patriotic note with the national anthem. The staff enrichment program was highly appreciated by all participants, who left with renewed enthusiasm and practical tools to enhance their teaching practices.
