Seminar on “Linguistics Legacy: How English Shaped Indian Education and Society”
The Department of English successfully organized a thought-provoking seminar on the topic “Linguistics Legacy: How English Shaped Indian Education and Society” on March 29, 2025. The session was delivered by Dr. I. Amalraj, Assistant Professor, PG Department of English, Loyola College, Vettavalam.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Mr. Anbarasan, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Our esteemed Principal, Dr. S. William Suresh Kumar, delivered the felicitation address, emphasizing the importance of understanding the historical and cultural impact of the English language in India.
During the session, Dr. Amalraj eloquently traced the influence of English on Indian society and education. He explained how English emerged as a language of governance, administration, and academic instruction, shaping modern India’s institutional structures. The seminar shed light on how English fostered the rise of a new class of educated Indians, significantly impacting socio-cultural identity, communication, and professional development across various sectors.
The session concluded with an interactive Question and Answer segment, during which students actively engaged with the speaker, exploring how English continues to contribute to the growth of diverse fields in contemporary India.
