Anti-Ragging Awareness Program on 14.08.2025

Anti-Ragging-Awareness-1

About The Event

The Anti-Ragging Awareness Program was successfully conducted at St. Charles College of Arts & Science, Eraiyur on 14.08.2025 with the objective of sensitizing first-year students about the harmful effects of ragging and the strict measures taken against it.

The session was presided over by our respected Principal, Dr. S. William Suresh Kumar, who addressed the gathering with an insightful and thought-provoking talk on the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment.

The Principal began the session by warmly welcoming the first-year students and introducing them to the concept of ragging, explaining its definition, forms, and its adverse effects on the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of students. He emphasized the legal implications of ragging under the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, highlighting that ragging is a punishable criminal offence in India.

He detailed the different forms of ragging, including verbal abuse, physical harassment, and cyberbullying, stressing that even indirect involvement is considered a serious offence. The Principal further elaborated on the disciplinary actions and punishments that may be imposed, such as suspension, rustication, and legal prosecution.

In addition to the legal consequences, he underscored the moral and ethical responsibility of every student to foster a friendly and supportive campus culture. He encouraged students to build bonds of mutual respect, cooperation, and empathy rather than engaging in harmful practices.

The awareness session also provided guidance on how to report incidents of ragging. Students were informed about the availability of anti-ragging committees, help desks, and helpline numbers, with assurance of strict confidentiality and prompt action on complaints.

Towards the conclusion, the Principal urged the students to uphold the dignity of the institution by being role models of discipline and kindness. He ended his address with an inspiring message:

“Our campus must be a space for learning, growth, and friendship, free from fear and intimidation.”

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and clarifying their doubts regarding the rules and regulations. Overall, the awareness program proved to be a valuable step towards ensuring a safe and positive environment for all students.
