PG Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at St. Charles College of Arts and Science, Eraiyur, was established in 2019 with an initial intake of 15 students and has grown steadily to a current strength of 88 students. Situated in an agriculture-based rural area, the department is committed to providing quality, value-based Computer Science education to first-generation learners. Over the past five academic years, the department has produced 96 graduates.

To enhance employability and bridge the rural–urban digital divide, the department actively organizes Zero Hour programmes such as Basic Computer Training, MS Office and Internet Applications, and Coding and App Development using PHP and MySQL. These initiatives strengthen students’ technical competence and career readiness, leading to the successful placement of alumni in IT and non-IT sectors, particularly in Chennai.

Academic enrichment activities are conducted through the Computer Science Association, “Nexus CS,” which organizes seminars, workshops, and robotics workshops. Students have also demonstrated their designed products in schools and at the Kallakurichi Book Fair, promoting innovation and experiential learning.

A major academic milestone was achieved with the introduction of the postgraduate programme in Computer Science in 2025, with an intake of 24 students. Building on this progress, the department further expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of the M.Sc. Computer Science programme in 2026, strengthening advanced learning and research opportunities.

Social responsibility is emphasized through dedicated outreach activities, including a climate change awareness programme at Pugaipatti Village, fostering environmental consciousness and sustainable practices among rural communities.
